Roof Maintenance
Tips and Services
Many homeowners only pay attention to their roofs when something goes wrong—like when water starts leaking into the house. Regular roof maintenance and inspections can help you catch potential issues early, extend the lifespan of your roof, and save you money on costly repairs.
Roof Maintenance at a Glance
At American Cowboy Roofing, we understand the importance of proactive roof care. Our team of expert roofers is here to help you maintain your roof in top condition, ensuring your home remains safe and secure.
Schedule Regular Inspections
A newly installed residential roof should last approximately 20 years, depending on maintenance, weather conditions, and unforeseen events.
Regular roof inspections are essential to identify and address any issues before they become serious problems.
At American Cowboy Roofing, our thorough inspection process covers everything from shingles to flashing, ensuring that any potential issues are detected and resolved promptly.
Address Minor Repairs
Maintenance and routine repairs are usually minor and can be handled quickly and efficiently.
While some homeowners may choose to perform basic maintenance tasks themselves, extreme caution should be taken when using a ladder or walking on the roof. For those who prefer professional assistance, our expert roofers are ready to handle all necessary repairs.
During our maintenance checks, we repair nail pops, secure loose flashing and shingles, and replace missing shingles. We’ll also inspect your roof vent pipe collar and gutter system, addressing any issues we find.

Look for Loose Nail Pops
If you notice raised shingles, it could be due to nail pops—a common issue where nails push up from the roof deck, lifting the shingles with them.
If addressed immediately, nail pops can be a simple fix: we remove and replace the loose nails and seal the shingles back down.
If left unattended, however, nail pops can allow water to penetrate under the shingles, leading to potential leaks or wind damage that could blow the shingles off entirely.
Secure Loose Flashing
Roof flashing is a thin material used to direct water away from critical areas of the roof, such as where the roof meets a wall or around roof features like vents, chimneys, and skylights.
Loose or damaged flashing is one of the most common causes of roof leaks and can lead to wood rot and even structural collapse if not repaired.
During our maintenance inspections, we check all flashing to ensure it is secure and functioning properly.
Replace Pipe Collars Every 7-10 Years
A roof vent pipe collar creates a tight seal around vent pipes, preventing rain and debris from entering your home. Over time, the rubber boot that forms the seal can deteriorate due to weather exposure, leading to potential leaks.
Even with regular maintenance, these collars should be replaced every 7-10 years to prevent significant damage.
If your roof vent pipe collar is showing signs of wear, our team will replace it to maintain the integrity of your roof.
Secure/Replace Shingles
Shingles that have been lifted or damaged by the elements should be repaired as soon as possible to prevent further damage.
Loose or missing shingles can expose the underlying sheathing to water, leading to rot and structural issues.
If you notice any loose or missing shingles on your roof, our expert roofers can quickly secure or replace them, ensuring your roof continues to protect your home effectively.
Clean Your Gutters at Least Twice a Year
Your gutters play a crucial role in directing water away from your home’s foundation, preventing erosion, and protecting your landscaping. Over time, gutters can accumulate debris such as leaves, twigs, and even nests, leading to clogs and overflows.
We recommend cleaning your gutters at least twice a year—once in the spring and once in the fall. During our maintenance visits, we’ll clear out debris, check for signs of wildlife nesting, and clean any grime, dirt, mold, or algae that has built up on your gutters.
If you have gutter guards, we’ll also clean the tops to ensure water can drain properly.
Check for Signs of Gutter Damage
In addition to cleaning, it’s important to inspect your gutters for signs of damage, such as cracks, rust, or sagging.
Damaged gutters can lead to water pooling around your home’s foundation or leaking into your basement, causing significant issues.
Our team will assess your gutter system and make any necessary repairs to keep it functioning effectively.
